She likes to play in the street chasing moths or what ever, I even found her once sleeping in the street.! She has already been hit by a car once, although she survived, it hasn't taught her to stay away from streets and cars.
She has been spayed, that didn't help at all. I don't let her out, other people that live in my house do when she cries at the door.

My cat started its life being an indoor cat. I also have 2 other cats that won't accept her, except when she brings in live or dead birds, she does that frequently. These other two stay in my bedroom 90% of the time. A window is always open for them if they want to go out. I also didn't mention the person I live with who lets her out, (or throws her out ) when ever I'm not looking is..... my Mother! Even though my Mom has 2 dogs, which she gets along with, she likes to sleep under her bed at night. She hides under there until Mom goes to sleep,, then makes the mistake of curling up with the dog. eventually dog wakes up and sees Teaser (the cat) and they want to play. My Mother wakes up, and out goes the cat. Help! if you have any suggestions now that most of the details have been told! I love this cat she is barely 2 years old and I don't want to give her up!

I have had too many cats hit by cars or disappear, I don't let my cats outside anymore. You need to put your foot down and tell the other people you live with that your cat DOES NOT get let out no matter how much she whines.

I have a friend that put a sign on her door that said, "Please do not let the cat out no matter what she tells you!". You are right to be concerned this cat will end up dead in the street if you let her outside.
Let her have access to a window so that she can watch the outdoors. Enclose your porch or buy a pen that you can put her in to go outdoors. Walk her on a leash.
Do whatever you are comfortable with but keep her inside for her own protection. Good Luck!

If you really want to keep her out of trouble but still want her to enjoy the great outdoors, you can install a cat run outside. It will still let her be outside, but keep her safe from cars and other cats in the street. You can probably run a search on cat runs to get some more info.

My neutered male is the same... crying and pestering to be let out. But we have lots of racoons around here and I just cannot trust him to be out there by himslef even though we have a huge backyard. So I got him and the 1 yr old kitty an outdoor enclosure from petsmart (13ft x 7ft x 7 ft) and I put them in there for a brief stint when it isn't raining. I also walk them around the yard wearing harness and leash. When they pester me to go out, I put them in the outdoor kennel where thy eat grass and watch for anything interesting. But since it is cold now, they want to come back in after 15 mins. After they've been out even for a brief period, they are ready to settle down indoors happily. Maybe is you take your kitty out for brief controlled supervised outdor excursions, she'll be more happy to stay indors when she must. Train her to walk with halter and leash on.

You might try taking her out every so often with a harness and tether, so that she gets her outdoor time without danger of cars. And please talk to the other people who live there about not putting your cat in danger like that.

Cats are animals, and therefore need to go outside. You can't really train a cat to be aware of cars, they need to learn it for themselves. You really shouldn't keep a cat inside, especially if it cries at the door. This is what they were made for, it's quite cruel not to let her out. We let our cat out, and if he's not back in about 2 hours or so, we call for him by shaking his biscuit tin and he comes running. You should not be stopping this wee animal from doing what they are made to do. Think about it, would you like someone to stop you from going out?
