no u dont need ur driving permit for renewing ur car tax..but however u need a valid MOT certificate, insurance details, and probably ur registration certificate...and also a dvla tax renewal letter

defo not i am a driving instructor. all you need is a valid insurance cover note, the cars log book & a valid m.o.t certificate if your car is more than 3yrs old. you can also do it online now on dvla's own web site.
