I would think at the age of 5 there should be some privacy rules set down, even at home. My daughter is 8, and I cannot imagine her running around naked at the beach at age 6.
Normal now is, there are a lot more nervy perverts hanging out at beaches, than in the 70s or 80s, watching adults AND kids in their bathing suit. I think it would be more appropriate to let the child swim in their jeans then run around naked. If the child forgot to pack their swimsuit, then wearing what they wore to the beach is their punishment. You may get weird looks from others, but it is safer for your child.

Well, i would accidentally walk out there, look around and say to myself "looks like a nude beach, wrong place for sure" or purposely walk there and think " ok remember, don't stare cause that is rude and act like you have done this before" im a pretty calm person so it would be just another new and exciting day in the world on matt.

It probably depends where you are in the world. Some countries are more prudish about nudity but even here in Australia I think most kids are encouraged to wear swimsuits once they start going to school. Things have changed since the '80s as we are much more aware of the sick thrill pedophiles get from looking at naked kiddies.

I have a 4 year old daughter who, for some mysterious reason, can't swim or be on the beach with her suit on. We've decided to just let her run naked until she's about 5, then we'll start trying to hold her down to put pants on her. She absolutely detests clothing, and naked is normal for her. If people don't like my little naked toddler on the beach, they don't have to look at her.

The best way to know if your child is too old to be running around naked when everyone else has clothes on?
Look at everyone's reaction. Do the other patrons seem uncomfortable or like they are "trying not to look", then the child is too old to be doing that....
Are there people who do not even notice?
then you are probably fine

Unfortunately I dont think its acceptable, there are far too many weirdo's about. It has taken away the innocence of our children. For this reason I would not let even my 2 year old in a public place naked, or in our home if other people are here.

in this day of paedophilia and mobile camera phones your child's naked body can be on a porn site in less than 3 min. No way would my child be naked at a beach no matter what age

No, it is not acceptable for a 6 year old child to be nude anywhere there are other people.

For his own protection, he should always wear a suit at the beach - even on a nudist beach.
