Come to Alaska! There's a great thing called the Permanent Dividend Fund. And if you are a resident here for 2years or more, you get free money, once every year for each of the household members of your family. The amount of PFD you get, PER PERSON, ranges from $900.00 - $1,300.00. It's great for saving.
But if you are not looking for drastic measures, maybe, every paycheck you get, portion the money out. Some goes to food, some goes to bills, some goes to saving. Knowing where and what to spend your money on is key to saving money.

we started to savings plans for our baby. we started a college bound account, which is like a retirement plan but he can only use it for college. as long as he uses it for college it is tax deferred. we also have a regular savings account at bank of america and we use the keep the change program, where when you use your debit cards it rounds up the next dollar and puts the amount in the savings account. it adds up fast! good luck!

Check out "Upromise". You earn a certain percentage of what you spend in you everyday life, ie McDonalds,,and it goes into an account for your child's future. I just started looking into it and it seems pretty good. I want to start one up for my kids.

I once read that the best way to finance your child's future is to do well yourself. Pretty good advice, and everyone wins!
