If it is a crowded elevator, no way. That's the perfect opportunity to fart because no one can know it was you.
Now if there is only one other person, you're busted and you may as well own up to it. If you are alone in an elevator, you'd best hold it, because you can bet someone will be getting on with you shortly, and you'll again be busted if you let it rip.

I dunno, but I stepped into an empty elevator once where the air-biscuit was still lingering and starting to make the paint peel. Then the darn thing stopped at another floor and the new passengers gave me a look like I was the dirty bird.
Since, then...payback baby.
Don't hesitate to leave your mark. Make no apologies.
Nasty I know, but oh so satisfying......

Don't admit to it and just to mess with the people (hopefully co-workers that you hate), smirk and watch their reactions. You cannot get in trouble.
I used to "drive-by shoot" coworkers I hated at the copy machine. Very funny stuff.
