"Thy shall not kill", but is not church separated from state in USA? I understand that killing somebody else must be illegal, but why must killing myself be illegal too?

I have to ask, because the laws of my country (I think) are based in the laws of USA.

Suicide is considered an active action: you are consciously taking action to end your life. Refusing medical care is a passive action: you aren't doing anything, just letting events take their course. But you're right, when it gets down to it there isn't a whole lot of difference. Especially when you introduce assisted suicide into the mix. And yes it is kind of silly to outlaw suicide. If you succeed then you can't be prosecuted and if you fail, getting prosecuted for attempting it could just drive you to try again. I think anti-suicide laws are probably one of those "just because" laws that lawmakers feel they have to pass in order to make the statement that they are against it. Since most religions consider suicide a sin, there is that angle too.

I believe that killing oneself would be to commit the act of suicide and be "successful" in the regards to the person being deceased. There would be no consequences, in the legal sense, to the deceased. Yet the attempted act of suicide would show erratic mental stability and violent behavior and could be a danger to society.

because the fact that u want to dont mean u should life is hard it wont get easier but the people who u no love u and care bout u if u killed urself they would be very upset life goes on hard and fun but also hard and horrible u shouldnt kil urself for the things u will miss marrage having kids everything that makes life beautiful

if someone wants to kill themselves, more power to them. just hopefully they won't want to take others with them. i mean in the USA what are the cops going to do to you for killing yourself? charge you with the murder of yourself? that'll be pretty funny.

why would you be concerned about the legal ramifications of suicide? what are they going to do, take you to jail if you kill yourself?
