i'm going to gold coast for a week, and it will be my first time. what are the places that i must see or should try when i get to gold coast? and any must buy while i'm in the area?

My friends came back from a trip recently and had purchased a lot of handmade crafts and jewlery that you don't see often. I think there was some hand dyed cloth too, but it may not have come from the Gold Coast. Oh, and they had a lot of Lord of the RIngs stuff you can't buy in the states.
