Cats need to eat and drink every day. Cats eat cat food and leftovers. Sometimes they will catch and eat small animals like mice and birds. A cat eats lots of different foods like juice from meat and fat from meat. Cats like to drink milk. They should always have fresh water available. Most cats eat dry food and water. Usually cats eat once or twice a day. Cats are also cleaner than dogs when they eat.

Unlike a dog who would eat cardboard covered in gravy as they are primarily just 'eat whatever' creatures, cats really do enjoy a varied diet.
Try a mix of dry food which you can easily leave in a bowl for irregular eating patterns seeing your cat will want to eat 'as and when'. Crunchie or dry food is also good for their teeth I'm told.
You can condition them to eating at set times - we feed ours usually on the return from work and also when we get up - often to find two of them waiting. Admittedly they don't eat much but they expect bowls to be filled then and also will pester us like mad. Remember that even though cats will happily sleep 24/7, they do notice human routine and work one out for themselves.
As for varying their diet - supplement the dry food with good quality tinned food - and don't always give the same type - imagine how bored a cat must become with 'chicken' each day - it's probably the human equivalent of beans on toast for every meal.
Buy some of the 'cat tuna' and mix it with the food and remember cats do like to eat something that has 'breathed' occasionally (hence their penchant for mice!) - so fresh or cooked chicken makes a good treat. Cats will eat some veg but they are meat eaters by design and may turn their nose up if offered it too often.
They can eat other cooked meats if thinly sliced or cubed is ok but I've found things like uncooked meat like pork, lamb, etc, can be a bit of a task and often is gulped down just to get it eaten leading to it re-appearing later.
As for treats - you'll find cats differ in what they like - we have one who loves crisps and pieces of biscuit and even cake, another likes egg white but hates cooked meat, another likes chicken skin but not chicken meat and another goes crazy for white cat treats and crispy bacon rind.
Don't ever scald your cat for bringing mice or birds home - it's their way of 'payback' - just dispose of the carcass discretely and not in front of them (don't just throw it over your neighbours fence - they will bring it back!) and remember cats do eat grass as part of their digestive habits.
Hope this helps - as an owner of four cats for plenty of years, I think I've pretty much got this feeding cracked.

well, it really matters on the cat's taste... my cat will eat bread, but my friend's will only eat meat. you have to train him to eat everything. give him leftovers from your dinner, breakfast, lunch... they usually dont eat fruits or vegetables. and my advice to you: do not give him raw meat! he will like it, but he will SMELL!!! so, ya good luck!
