My friends are going travelling for 6 months. I will be going out to meet them in Thailand for 2 weeks. Should I take a backpack or suitcase? We will be staying in hostels and travelling around. Thank you!

Without a doubt a decent backpack-I wouldnt fancy dragging a suitcase (with wheels or without) over bumpy Thai roads!

Get one from a camping store. Happy travelling!

Absolutely a backpack or even better a rucksack. I've been living in Europe for more than 4 years and anytime I go anywhere, I always bring my rucksack.
As far as brands go, I would highly recommend Deuter which is from Germany so it might be kinda expensive, or also North Face. The most important thing is the bag be comfortable when you have to have it on you for a long time. On one trip I had inside of my bag not only things for 2 weeks, but also a tent for two and another backpack with photo equipment. All in all it was really heavy, but the way good rucksacks are made, they redistribute the weight so it is not solely on your shoulders.
Size wise I wouldn't get anything less than 10 gallons/ 38 Liters.
I would also strongly recommend you bring another 'normal' backpack for your carry-on plus to have with you when you go touring about.
If you are worried about not having enough space for things you want to take back, just wait and at worst you buy a cheap suitcase while you are there (the people at the hostel can tell you where to go).
Hope this helped and wasn't too long!

Depends how much stuff you'll be taking with you. When i went travelling 3 years ago i took a backpack, but it was a bit of a pain carrying it everywhere, so while i was in australia i ended up buying a pully suitcase - made life a lot easier.
Saying that if you are stayng in dorm rooms in hostels you will have lockers to keep your stuff in so a backpack can easily be shoved inside it for safekeeping. But if you and your friends are staying in private rooms then a suitcase will be fine

definitley a backpack. it will be so much easier to carry around and will also stop you taking things that you really dont need with you. suitcases on wheels are good for going on holidays etc but they aren't really made for people that are traveling around as they are 2 awkward to carry and will just get in the way!
have a good trip!!

a suitcase isn't a huge hassle if it's small and light. just make sure you drop it off at the hostel first thing when you arrive somewhere even if you can't get in your room. most of the time they will lock it up and keep it safe. you can do the same after check out but before leaving too. it's just whatever you are comfortable with for 5+ weeks. i'm just saying a suitcase isn't a huge hassle

Backpack definately! It will be easier to lift onto taxi's and stuff. If you will be staying in nice hotels and travelling first clas sthen I would recommend a suitcase in wheels, but on the "traveller" scene everyone will have a backpack, bon voyage!
