Original sin is that time when Adam and Eve ate of the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and traded their immortality for mortallity by introducing lust, hatred, greed, gluttony, lying, deception, and dishonor into the human anatomy. Until they ate of the fruit, they were unaware of these sins. We know this because Adam told God that they hid from Him because they were naked. They would not have been aware of lust and deception unless they had eaten of that tree. Mankind was at that time infused with the genetics which caused sin and death. This is my opinion.

"Original Sin" is the sin committed by Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, the sin of pride in thinking that by eating the forbidden fruit that they could make them selves equal to God. It is taken from the book of Genesis in the Old Testament. The sin passes down through the generations and is "washed away" by Baptism and the redemption earned for the human race by Christ's crucifixion.
Some Protestant denominations teach original sin and some don't. Some believe in predestrination where you're damned or not seemingly almost at random regardless of the redemption of Christ.
Since my personal concept of God is as a loving and forgiving figure, I find the concept of original sin where all people are presumed damned until made innocent to be unbelievable.

Could you please point out in the bible where the phrase "original sin" occurs. The problem with this idea is that Christ would have been born with the "original sin" as well. However, it was necessary for him to be sinless to perform his atoning sacrifice. So, if we are all born sinners, then Christ could not have been a suitable savior. Secondly, we know that no unclean thing can live with God. So, an infant who dies without the ability to repent would go straight to hell. Clearly, a just God would not send hundreds of millions, possibly billions, of souls straight to hell for eternity simply because they died at an early age before they had the opportunity to repent. You have to be able to explain both of those concepts to truly stand by the concept of "original sin".

Catholics say that protestant are heretics. Among other consequences, this means that all Protestants go directly to catholic hell, sin, original or not, not withstanding.
For more information about the original sin you should read some ancient middle eastern tales and legends.
You can also forget about the hole boring thing and try the Flying Spaghetti Monster for a change. He wiggles for your delight.

No, all Christian sects teach it (as far as i know)...anyways, since Adam and Eve ate those evil fruits, Christians believe that people are born into sin...and that we're responsible for someone else's mistakes!
I think this 'original sin' is a load of codswhollop!

original sin basically means that when adam and eve ate from the tree they weren't supposed to they obviously sinned, and this sin was passed onto their offspring and everyone that followed. so innocent ppl basically had this sin even if they didn't do anything. so if your dad or mom makes mistakes they are passed onto you! the concept of original sin in my beleif is false - think about it why would any god blame us on sins that were not committed by us!
