It takes more peanuts to make creamy peanut butter. The uncrushed peanuts in chunky are not as dense so they take up more room in the jar. Plus chunky could also take less time to process smashing fewer peanuts.

In the crunchy peanut butter they actually have to use real peanuts because you can see them but in the smooth one its mostly fake stuff.

other than it needs more work, the smooth peanut butter is demanded more. Thus, as the demand of the product becomes more the price becomes higher

Didnt notice ever the price difference.but after reading your Question went to kitchen and checked the prices(i have both chunky and smooth in fridge,smooth for our breakfast and chunky for BAKING (to make cookies with it) And you know what chunky`s price is more then smooth. LOL, so what i think is. the price doesnt depend on chunky or smooth,its depend on grocery stores owner, what he decide or put tag on them.you must check prices in other stores too.

They have to pay special people with little tiny figers to pick the chucks out of the jars. It gets really messy and they have to pay them for being specialists.
