Five is a fabulous age. They are ready to take the world by storm. It's great that you watch him everyday. I'm sure he enjoys spending time with you.
Have you thought about giving him homework to work on too? If he's in Kindergarten find out if you can what they are doing with him in class. He could practice whatever they are writing, etc. You can play the game of how many things can name that begin with whatever letter he is working on. etc..
I spy series books are great to start at this age, he may have to have you read what he is looking for, but then he can be busy looking over for the things in the picture.
Reading together is great too. Does he enjoy playdough? You can even get a recipe and make your own playdough.
Ants in the Pants is a great inexpensive game. You can also play counting games as well. You could use pennies and give him a certain amount have him count those and say okay how much if we add this many more. What about chutes and ladders, tic tac toe, etc.
Coloring books and connect the dots are great. My sons loved colored pencils like their older brother was using for graphs and things in his homework, colored pencils made them feel like they were big stuff.
Ask him to draw you a picture about his day. His friends, etc.

If he is a rambunctious boy, you can run around in the yard, play hide and seek, or tag, or ball. Coloring or drawing is always fun. A treasure hunt (you should hide something and make a treasure map beforehand), especially if you pretend to be pirates. Each take a puppet (or make sock puppets) and have wild and entertaining conversations about life and the universe. Go for a walk. Practice cartwheels. Ask him how his day was - - but don't ask questions that can be answered with a "yes" or a "no". Sit on the porch and eat an ice cream cone. Just spending time with him and not just sitting him in front of the television is what is important. He is going to grow up so fast, so enjoy your time with him. Have fun and he will always have great memories with you!

Set up a quick treasure hunt. Use hints like "this is where you brush your teeth at night!' for the bathroom, and 'this is where you sit to watch TV' for a pillow on the couch. Make sure you use words he can read, or draw pictures. Those can keep kids busy for hours if you make them long enough. Put a candy bar or a coloring book from the dollar store at the end of it. That way, he gets to run around and you don't have to watch him too closely!

Coloring, play-dough, memory card games...anything to make him sit at the kitchen table with you. I have my kids do these things when i either want the to sit still and not run around like monsters, or if like you i need to get something done. Also..maybe take your work outtside, let him play with buckets and shovel (probably dollar at the dollarstore)...INSTANT fun for hours. Its only a half hour! geeze i can think of so many things. Pretend homework for him if hes a kid that likes that sort of thing..thats one my daughter always does.

Coloring books! Great way to entertain a youngster. He'll be busy doing his' homework' (staying in the lines and coloring his mom and dad a picture) while you do your homework. If you approach it correctly without sounding like you;re trying to get rid of the kid, or MAKE him/her do something by force, you can probably control this situation. Hey, if a five year old can be in charge of you, you need to take stock of that too? right...

there's a technology Museum that's surely relaxing to bypass to in honest Park. there is bowling in Plano- important adventure. And 3 hundred in Dallas The Dallas Aquarium is amazing. So is the Dallas Zoo in spite of the undeniable fact that it is slightly stinky. each and every of the shops have slightly play place for little ones... haha i could propose the technology Museum plenty nonetheless, it is not high priced and it is surely extremely appealing, i could definately say if it grew to become into boring or no longer.

Give him some crayons and a colouring book! I know my 5 year old LOVES to colour! It's fun.
Also watching cartoons is fun. Just put on cartoons and let him watch them, while you get your studies done.
Have fun with your cousin:-)

Give him an old binder and some pencil crayons and print out some age appropriate "home work" sheets for him from www.enchantedlearning.com. My 5yr old feels like a big kid and loves doing her "home work" at the table with me while I am doing my paperwork.....

Coloring! All kids love to color and getting lots of different things to color with and color on give the child endless possibilities. You both can sit at a desk or table, you doing your homework, him coloring.
