Methusela was 900-1000 years old. In those times many people counted moon cycles......there are about 13 moon cycles a year. Instead of solar years, we could use moon cycles. Maybe Methusela was only 77 when he died....very old for the time. Wasn't there a verse (in the NT I think) somewhere that said man will not live past 100 years?

methusela was 900 years old. Although its not documented and is hard to prove, the theory is this: before the flood of noah (you know the ark and all) the world had less water in its oceans rivers etc. the theory is that all this water from the flood was above the earth on a layer of mist (like the ozone) and this did 2 things. IT blocked out more harmful rays and crap from the sun than now, which kept people healthier. But the biggest thing it did was doubled the earths barometric pressure. And if you know anything about barometric pressure, it helps the body regenerate and heal at amazing rates(which is why pro sports player that get injured rest in them) Anyway after the flood that layer was gone, and people started to die much younger. I think within 2 gererations it was down to 100 -110 years(ust like us). And yes methusela was before the great flood.
This theory also explains many other things such as the lost city of atlantis (underwater). ...think about it....good luck!!!!

Although moon cycles were counted, they did not count as a year.

The Bible stating that Methusela was that old means it explicitly. That was part of the miracle of his life. There were other old timers in the Bible, living more than 100 years, but according to the Bible, the ages seem to have dropped off quite a bit as the OT progresses.

The bible says in Genies as time goes on the people or generations got farther away from God (the source of life) which is why peoples lives are not as long as the generations of old. People lived longer then as the bible states but to give you a logical reason to support what the bible says is if anything is away from the source its life span is drastically lowered that's why the average life span in the NT change to 75 and statistic says 60 - 70 was the average age in 1992. i hope this will help answer your question

Remember, Adam and Eve and all of their off spring would have lived forever had not sin entered the world. Death is a curse of sin.

Much of our aging process comes from exposure to ultra-violate rays from the Sun and before the flood, there was a barrier in the sky that kept these harmful rays from reaching us. Once that was gone, the life spans were greatly shortened.

There is good news...Jesus said that if any will believe on HIM, they will never die....check the link below to find out more

psalms 90:10 says in the days most people will only live 70-80 yrs............methusela......lived closer to perfection in adams time compared to todays people in the last days(2 tim 3:1-5)..where wickedness is rampant in our day(closer to death)

Hmmm I think the scientific reason was that the ozone was much thicker, thus keeping radiation out and slowing the aging process. I don't think about it though, I dont care though, even if someone lived 900 years it wouldn't have any repercussions on me.
