If your looking for exagerated, not accurate, bass reproduction then put the sub in the corner of your room. Normally this is a bad idea but if the sub isn't really very juicy and your looking for more output this may be the way to go.
On the other hand if your looking for smooth quality bass reproduction there are some great tips for finding the right placement for your subwoofer in the articles in my references. Check them out regardless of what you decide. The tips in these articles will guide you to finding the best sound for you, which is what really matters. Good luck!

Hello there,

Try this. Being that bass sound is sort of an omnipresent element, it isn't particularly important where in the room the speaker is placed, so long as it is not against, or too close to a wall no matter which way it faces.

Since we can't dialog the question, answer/thing. I'm going to assume a room 12X12X10 feet high. Try placing the speaker on the floor to one side (either side), front corner if possible 1-3 feet from any wall. It's important for bass sound to eminate close to a corner which forms a sort of a three sided horn shape to help load the sound. You may try aiming the speaker so that it is not aimed directly at the listening area as the sound eminating from the driver may be a little intense.

Face the speakers towards the outside of your trunk.
Place them on either side if they are seperate, but if they're both in one box, center the box in your trunk obviously.

1.) This will give you the kickback and the roundness of some sweet, sweet bass.

2.) People outside of your vehicle will get to hear your trunk rattling.

Otherwise, you'll lose the strength of bass if you face the head towards your back seat.

Alot of the time, it is helpful to place the sub in a few different places around the room and try to find the place where it sounds best for you.

Best place to put a subwoofer is on a hard surface (some tabletops aren't hard enough). It should always face towards you. Make sure to have ample space on all sides.

Sub woofers are not "directional" frequecies.
No matter which way you turn it, it sounds almost the same.
Tweeters and midranges direction matter.
