Why are so quick to attack the Christians when this has nothing to do with Christianity?

There's nothing wrong with following a religion, or believing in a god. There's everything wrong in trying to spread the seeds of hatred and ignorance.

I'm an atheist and I use lots of thumb votes. I try to be fair and judge based on the merits of how well someone has answered the question, whether I agree with the answer or not.

It just so happens that I find myself giving thumbs down to lots of religious responders, because they so often fail to answer the questions. I often vote down atheists/agnostics who respond similarly, as well. But most of the time, the bad or non-answers I see are from theists. I'm not sure why.

One guy just asked if the bible says anything about abortion. A fair question. A few said yes, with some support. A few said no. But a whole bunch of responders attacked (not viciously) the questioner, and many just said that abortion is murder. I voted all these latter answers thumbs down.

Could you generalize a little more?

I'm an atheist and I personally don't give thumbs down to all believers or everything I disagree with. I give thumbs down to disrespectful and arrogant comments, attacks, hate-spreading, bigotry, people who state unproven/disproved things as facts or flat out lie in other ways (no matter whether those comments are made by a believer or an atheist). I don't give thumbs down to those who manage to get their point across in a respectful way, even if I disagree with their beliefs or opinion.

Many people in this section give thumbs down to everything they disagree with or to everyone who doesn't share their beliefs, but not all atheists do that and other people than atheists do this quite a lot too.

OK, with regard to the thumbs controls, there are exactly 3 options. You can give a Thumbs Up, you can give a Thumbs Down, or you can do nothing.
If you disagree with somebody's answer, a Thumbs Down is a quick, easy way to demonstrate that.
What does this have to do with atheists, again?

I don't give a thumbs down unless the person is obviously trying to antagonize someone or is stating fiction or something they just made up as fact. For example, I would not give a thumbs up to 'I believe the Earth is 6000 years old' if I encountered it in the religion section, but I would in the science section (which is supposed to be educational, not debate). However, if they said 'Many scientists believe the earth is 6000 years old' or 'science proves the earth is 6000 years old', they would get a thumbs down in either section for a flat-out lie.

So, no thumbs down to ignorance, but thumbs down to lying.

I don't find that to be the case.

I give thumbs down to people who lie in their answer, or try to pawn off falsehoods as facts. The ones who heard a rumour one time and now pretend that it's irrefutable evidence.

People who say purely stupid things like "My grandfather wasn't a monkee!!!11!11!!!?"

People who cut and paste their answers. Because they put no effort or thought into it.

People who insult others. And I don't care what religion the insulter is and what religion the insultee is.

People who don't answer the question.

People who use such poor language skills that their answer is incomprehensible.

It doesn't matter to me what religion these people are.

What tool are you using that not only tells you exactly who are giving thumbs ups and thumbs down, but also reads their minds over tcp-ip and reports back their religious views? Really, I want to know, I think there may be some money in it!
