I used to hate it when aunts and grandmas, used to come up to me at weddings and pinch my cheeks and say "Your next" "Your next". Well they stopped doin that crap when i started to do it to them at funerals.

Im sorry if this is not an answer to your question but may I please point out that these people did not save you. People cannot save you, only Jesus can. Perhaps that, and the idea you have been 'practicing religion' and not 'following Jesus' is the reason you dont feel it and that it has not possitively impacted you because you were never truly saved. Had you been, had you understood Christ, you would have realized that. This isnt bad news! It doesnt mean Jesus failed you, just your 'religion'. Maybe that church is not the right one. And a church is not absolutely necessary in order to find or retain faith. Love of God, following His Word, being in His Word daily, praying always to God, giving thanks always in good times in bad. THAT is what is necessary. So dont feel bad, rather view it as an opportunity to find truth. If your friends revile you for backing out of church then they arent true friends. Understand though if you also plan on telling you dont want their religion being a part of your friendship then you will hurt them. Oh and I feel I must explain something. All that was I said was necessary? All that is not some organized thing you do because you have to, but will happen when you want to know God. God bless!
