Some of you say we're on this forum looking for the truth - to turn to theism.

Or say we worship the devil - YOUR made-up devil to be exact.

Call us immoral, evil people, etc.

There such a low percentage of atheists in the U.S. prison population even! We are the opposite of all these claims. We deserve more than respect... we should be looked up to. ^-^

A lot of us are just trying to educate the igorant. No harm in that.

Actually, Nicole, there's about a 10% of atheists/agnostics in the U.S.

...You don't know how percentages really work do you?

out of the gray, ignorant is the proper word. It's not a negative word. It basically just means unlearned or without knowledge.

When I say ignorant people, I specifically mean people who believe in misconceptions. Meaning, they have not learned about the subject in actuality that they may be denying because they are relying on misconceptions.

I do not have disrespect for Atheists, nor do I consider myself ignorant.

I believe in God, but also believe there is value in all belief systems including Atheism. In the end, we will all end up in the same place, just at different points in "time".

Peace.

I heard from my Spanish teacher that atheists were called fools in the olden days. With the prominence of religion in the past, it is understandable that many atheists were used as scapegoats and that my friend is probably where the disrespect stems from. However, many religous people don't like to be bombarded with these "you guys believe in fictional people, it's just a book, etc." because they find it as a slap in the face. Also many atheists on this forum talk as if they are on some higher social ladder than religious people. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure arrogance is pretty looked down upon in this culture. If we all act more polite towards each other than this disrespect issue will probably go away. In conclusion, to everyone: don't be an ass on the forum please.

A lot of people don't respect anyone or their beliefs or non beliefs. Just the way it is. If someone is passionate about their belief, then they feel the need to convince others of it's 'wonderfulness'. I think it's a sort of defence mechanism, just in case they are wrong, then they won't be the only one's believing in the whatever. There are billions of us sharing the same planet, and everyone one of us is unique. Imagine how many differing points of views there are out there. We can't all be the same or believe the same thing, but we should respect other people's views, whether they differ from ours or not. In my opinion athiests are fine, it' the pediphiles I have a problem with, and never will.

To tell the truth I had much more respect before I saw the nasty attitude some have on here. I know all sides have their day but to blatantly claim superiority in intellect and call everybody ignorant is just evidence that your mission to "educate the ignorant" is grossly misguided and it is not any different to a fundamentalist ramming the Bible down your throat. This is not true of all Atheists as some on here are actually able to have a respectful debate and I for one enjoy their input.

I'll give you all the respect you and everyone else are entitled to. Do you think the term "ignorant" was respectful? The level of disrespect I have seen here is equal among atheists and believers. We could all do a better job of expressing ourselves without putting others down. I'm always willing to do my part.

Christians are so totally brainwashed to beleive that their way is right - they are told to go out and force their beliefs on others.

They cannot understand that some people chose not to beleive. Thats where christians should stop preaching & respect their beleifes - but they dont do that. No they keep pushing and praying and telling us we're going to hell and wouldnt it be better to go to heaven.

I think heaven will be very boring, I'm not in a hurry to get there.

The Pagans and the Wiccans get raked over the coals pretty good too by the Jesus freaks. Anytime somebody mentions anything about it they are instantly slammed with posts accusing them of worshipping the devil or going to hell because they are not "saved".

We are not all-knowing, therefore all theists and atheists are seeking for the truth. The atheists may humbly introduce theories like evolution, and the theists respectfully present reasons for belief in intelligent design, and we may reach some new insights for mutual advancement. It is really not good to claim all-knowing as well as to remain in ignorance.
We are not two opposing groups to come up here for struggling, but we are one human family who try their best to advance together in love, unity, peace.

well the disrespect comes from the lack of understanding of GODS word.as for me i respect you nonetheless.i'm a christian and yes my atheist friend respects my beliefs as i do his i don't have to agree with them and his thoughts are the same of mine.and yes i too have learned from this friend of mine,he has taught me how to see others point of view and not just mine,to examine myself first before i speak.we talk for hours on the phone and yes,at times it can become a debate but we always come to some sort of an agreement as far as respect for our friendship.and NO there is no harm in trying to educate,as for me and my friend we speak our peace, honestly speaking some of us can learn a thing or two from each other, but the awesome part about it all for me and my friend is i just leave him in my prayers continue to show him that love of GOD and somehow the lord answers my prayers for him and i still love him nonetheless but my beliefs till this day he respects so i'm ok with that.

I don't disrespect Atheists, even though I'm a pagan and we disagree on some points, I respect Atheism and don't try to push Paganism on them.I just try to clear up misconceptions (about my religion) and answer questions, when they have them. I can relate to atheists.
