I used to be able to eat heaps and remain slim but middle age has changed that. Are there people who struggle with food addiction...always thinking about food and what to eat next? If you have found some things that really help in this struggle please tell me about them. Thanks for sensible answers please!

I think one of the tricks is to try to surround yourself with people who are health conscious and who don't think of food as entertainment. It's very easy to slip into the habit of going out to eat every time you get together with friends or family, or fixing yourself a snack every time you're bored. Try to find a few allies who don't think this way or who are trying to change things for the better, and you'll be inspired to do the same.

Best of luck!

Yes. Plan ahead exactly what you are going to be eating for each meal. Take away that whole question of "What am I going to have?" Just make a plan, have the food ready, and don't give it a second thought.
Read "the Zone" books by Dr. Barry Sears, cutting-edge nutrition, super healthy.
Also, when you work out, you dont want to undo all your hard work in the gym, so you naturally find it easier to "eat to live."

I was a gymnast at one time and did a lot of damage to my joints, I had to use crutches from time to time and I had constant pain.

I lost about 30 lbs and since then I feel like I have a teenagers bones. I can not tell you how much healthier I feel.

Consider how much weight you need to loose then put that much weight in a back pack you wear every day when you get home from work. It wont take long before you realize what stress this "extra" weight puts on your body and your energy.

I can really relate. When I am not busy and just hanging around at home - food seems to be on the mind. Whether your eating your usual breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks, eating whilst watching TV or on the computer or cooking etc.

My best advise is to plan your day, furthermore plan when you eat and more importantly when you are not to eat!
Planning is the key to keeping yourself aware of what your actually doing with your body.

You need to train your brain, find something that you can put in place of thinking about food and your next meal, think of the starving children in Africa and be grateful you know you will be having a next meal.
