There is a new syndrome called 'THE COMPUTER VISION SYNDROME' in our ophthalmology.
People working for hours on computer with improper care can get this which has symptoms like;watering after severe dryness, redness, easy fatigue, gritty sensation, irritation.
This all is due to carelessness about eyes.
you can work for long on comps. just take few very simple precautions
1)don't keep the screen vertical parpandicular to the table.Keep it inclined as you read a book.
2)adjust the brightness, contrast according to your eye comfort.
3)after every 15 mins work focus your eyes on a distant object like trees through the window. This will relax your accomodation and stress.
4)The MOST important thing is BLINK,BLINK AND BLINK.All above symptoms are due to decreased blinking. We continuously stare at the screen forgetting the blinking which makes eyes dry and this is the begening of the computer vision syndrome.
5)A lubricating eye drop three times a day will defenitely help.
Take care.

Yes, it does.
If you are using a CRT monitor, it shoots electrons through the screen right into your eyes. Of course, there are standards for low emmissions etc., the things are heavy with metals which shield the radiation, but after a prolonged stay in front of a CRT, sensitive peole usually get headaches, eye problems etc.
The second problem with a CRT is that the picture is not stable. If you film it, you will see it is flashing. That is bad for your eyes, too.
The third problem are tears. Normally, your eyes are a bit wet, and blinking is an instinct designed to keep them wet, because it is important for their health. However, when you stare at a monitor, you usually stop blinking or do it only very rare. So your eyes get dry and sore.
The last problem is, if you strain your eyes very long, it is bad for them. Their capilars get big and you get red, sore eyes. That is true not only for monitors, but also for things like sewing.
A TFT monitor is much better than a CRT, because it doesn't have the first two problems. But the third and the fourth remain, so you shouldn't spend all day in front of your PC if you are concerned for your health.
