Because religions generally don't make much sense to non-believers. Heck, even believers find other religions than their own silly or stupid. There is a lot of strange elements in most religions that their followers may feel are reasonable while those who don't share their beliefs find those elements irrational.

Because some of the religious (I assume you mean Christian) people are not very bright and their logic is very off. Intelligent people can see thorough the ideas that the theist see as truth. However, I would guess that if all else being equal, they might have a second thought or two about the ideas of a particular religion or at least have respect for someone of that religion who was not stuck in concrete thinking.
So I encourage my fellow Christians to step outside of the box (or book), and open your mind and think rationally if you are going to have a discussion with an Atheist. Otherwise they will just see you are an ignorant fool and grow farther away from God.

Religion defies common sense. We are a nation of understanding and facts. If it's not proven without a doubt it's not believable. If religion was proven then people would be stupid for not believing. The only real answer is seek and you shall find.
