I can tell you that its not going to change. A slob will always be a slob, its just in their nature, the same as someone who is neat and clean. I don't know how your arrangement is set up about your lease, but when you are able to break away, it would be best to find a new roommate.

Looking for the new room mate is the real answer. If for whatever reason you don't want to do that, then probably giving in and just picking up, cleaning up, and b*tching like a housewife that is all that is left to you. Some of the answers are a bit childish and sound like they would just give you more stress.

I had the same problem. What I did was move all my stuff away from his so what was his was always in plain sight. If his clothes were left laying around,I would put them in places where he would step on them.(like outside his bedroom door,or at the bathroom)Dishes,I would use paper plates. If he persists, ask him if he will pay you to do things for him,,after you have made a price list of how much you would charge him.Or just get another roommate.Peace!

That is tough situation.....you did not leave home to parent another adult.............i would have a serious talk

offer options......hate dishes....paper plates and cups, order take out, solves the problem......

i always made it a rule when i moved in with a roommate....open areas have to cleaned after use.....cause i have guest over and want the place presentable to anyone dropping by.....your room, your business...........show respect for your roommate

in the future get references and check out their place before you accept them as a roommate.......

good luck and look for a new place if he does not respond positively with action...not words

Start picking up his junk and throwing it away. Soon, there will be less junk for you to pick up. Find your own set of eating utensils (plate, fork, knife, glass, etc...) and keep them hidden. Let him run out of clean dishes. Don't know what to tell you about the trash. Or you could start looking for other roommates.

Well obviously he's ignoring you. Have you really sat down and tried talking to him? If so then maybe you should look into getting another roommate. I'd really think about this before you become extremely agitated. Things could really get heated.

Tell your roommate that you found a cleaning lady and you only need half of $60.00 a week to pay her. No begging no nagging!

Keep turns to clean up stuff. If its his turn let him do it. Use a whiteboard or something that acts as a reminder to both you and him. That would be fair on both sides.

Move out or kick him out. This is a never ending story and its only going to bother you.

Try making a chore chart out and put it where he will see it daily or more
