He's a great big closet case, with a sever case of self-loathing, which he very effectively projects at the rest of the world.
Fortunately, he's so pathetic, he's also a caricature of reality.
Consequently he serves a useful purpose, of pointing out the hypocracy of homophobic religious wing nuts everywhere.
He simply applies the everyday dogma of the Fundamentalists and Evangelicals, taking it to its absurd logical conclusion (extermination of gays). This betrays the reality of all relgious hate-mongers.
Make no doubt about it: Fred is simply saying what the Pope and Jerry Falwells are actually demanding: genocide by fire of all gays.
I'm surprised Pat Robertson hasn't hired him to make a TV cartoon for Christian kids to watch on Saturday morning satellite 700 Club Cable network.
Then Fred could become a cult figure in Japan, and eventually we could buy the computer game where Fierce-ichi-machi-Fred laser-destructs the Queers. What fun that would be! (sarcasm).

No. Scum is typically made of algae, which has a purpose. Fred Phelps is an evil corrupt vainglorious pompous traitorous criminal who defiles the earth every time he exhales. He and his family are a blight on the face of humanity.

He is a sick and twisted hate filled fundie, who deserves to die a cruel and painful death. Even though I disagree strongly with the iraq war, his actions are an insult to every family that has lost a loved one over there. I do not normally wish ill of anyone, but in his case I'll gladly make an exception.
