I have surfed Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, G-land. I am looking for somewhere new in Indo, i value uncrowdedness over quality (to a certain extent). I am of medium ability and would surf from 0-8 foot. I am looking to travel in the dry season. I am not interested in boat trips. Thankyou.

I guess all that is left for you is the Mentawai's dude. Have you seen the Jack Johnson film 'The September Sessions'? That was all the Mentawai's!!!!

June, July & August are the best months. But during this time I would not say that the waves are uncrowded. All you need is one boat to pull up and you instantly have 7 or 8 bodies in the water! Maybe go on the shoulder of the season for less quality swells and less people.

The 2 organised land camps in the Mentawai's are Wavepark and Maccaroni's Resort. I`ve stayed at Wavepark and you have a great selection of waves close by of all skill levels. They have a heavy left that breaks out the front of the resort and `Rifles` is only a 15 minute boat ride away. I had a great time there , it's very well run and they have a website that will take you about 1 second to find.

Maccaroni's resort is named after the wave that breaks directly out the front. Also known as Lance´s Left and considered to be the 'worlds funnest left'. From the pics it looks like paradise....well it is Sumatra I guess.

You can go feral and stay in some of the villages on any of the islands around here. Not many people do this but it is possible and a LOT cheaper, you just need the time to find the right island. You also need to bring all your food etc from the mainland (Sumatra).

I hate boat trips too, but you have the opportunity in 10 days to charge almost every wave that you see in the September Sessions.

You should also think about Pupua New Guinnea if you like less crowds. Nice water and waves and doesn't seem too popular....yet.

Dont forget your booties!
