We're having another one of our famous dinner parties. I've invited 18 people, most of whom are couples. Bitsy & Walter are sitting next to Vivian and Michael, and across from them I have in left order Stella & Stewart, Father Tim, and Arthur S. Bitsy LOVES Father Tim and thinks he's a scream. Michael has said some causting things about him being a "gay" priest, but I told him that Tim is mannered and there is a difference. Arthur S. IS gay. Bitsy insisted I put them together. She thinks they may like each other. I told Bitsy that thats immoral, that he is a man of the cloth. She told me I am being a prude. I'm concerned about what is going to happen if I leave this arrangement like this. Michael WILL say something if he even IMAGINES something going on with Arthur and father Tim. I would be mortified. I cant uninvite ANYONE. I can't move Father Tim because he and Arthur are the only unpaired people at the table. I'm worrying myself sick and I haven't chosen the wine yet! What do I do?

seat them across from each other, that way they will make eye contact quite a bit and it wont look like your setting them up. and a nice pinot is just what you need....

Couldn't you not have the couples sit next to each other? I guess this would give your friends a chance to have conversations with other friends. But this is your famous dinner party, I would think your friends know how to act. If they don't it is not your falt. Don't stress it will be great!

I would let people seat themselves!!!!
AH-ha!!! light bulb moment!
I hate parties with name tags, and seating charts.
WE all change them anyway!

how are you going to know who's gonna hit it off with who.

It's your party, but it's for YOUR guests.
Let them figure out where they want to sit.

ideas:
1when they walk in, show them the seating chart on the wall,
let them pencil themselves in! *what a fun idea!!!

2play musical seat place arrangment!!!
mix up all settings and let the cards fall where they may.

or
3. each guest upon order of arrival picks a name out of the seating bag, and places it on the table
*now does't that sound like clever fun?

Now go make your punch!
People end up mixing those seating things around and sitting with whom they are most comfy with anyway!
is this a dictator's party or a free republic's or a demorcratic state party???

Sheesh! it can't be that hard.
serve finger food, and have them all stand!!1
