I am trying to figure out what a Blue Boston and a Seal Boston look like. My female had pups 2 days ago and there are 3 that look almost silver.... very pretty. I have seen some ads for Blue Boston's but the pics look like they are just black and white. I am asking because the Official Boston Terrier Standard do not recognize a Blue Boston as a breed of standard. I understand that Seals are more expensive when pricing but I am not sure what I have as far as color. I spoke with my vet and since I live a small town there are few Bostons and none of which are Seal or "Blue".

I have already checked Google ... that was my 2nd step after going to puppyfind. Google images pull Blue Eyed Bostons and Blue Heeler's, or the standard Tuxedo Boston. Thats why I aske the question.

I am not wanting to breed the pups I don't know what to advertise them as. Just not sure if they are Seals. If so that is recognized and considered rare by the reputable breeding organizations.

Seal puppies are dirty black in appearance.
What you have are the disqualifying colour blue or grey and you should price them the same as a mismarked puppy e.g. one with a half white head or white jacket. Is should go without saying that they should go on limited registration.
It does mean that the parents carry the recessive gene for blue & the mating should not be repeated & the owner of the stud needs to be informed.

I did a quick search & found a lot of puppy mill photos of purporting to be of seal Bostons when the pups were in fact red or liver. When the Boston breed standard was written the breed club could not of envisaged unscrupulous breeders trying to cash in on unwanted colours. They knew what they meant by seal - a near black dog, just off-black down the spine, fading on the sides.
You may see more examples of seal in Italian greyhounds - you can see examples of blue puppies in great Dane pictures.

This is a liver (disqualifying colour) not a seal

try woofboard.com to ask some questions of people who REALLY know their stuff. I am not a breeder or anything. As far as I know breed standard is brindle (like mine!) which is like a dark tiger stripe. Post a link of their picture.Seal looks like black, but when it is in the sun, it has a red sheen. It doesn't sound like that is what you have. By blue do you mean Blue eyes, or a dark grey charcoal coat? That is totally not OK. If by blue you mean a red grey colour, well, that's not OK either. Official Standard for the Boston Terrier is very specific.. There is no mention of a white Boston Terrier anywhere (nor Red's, Fawns or Blue). A white Boston Terrier is not a legitimate color for the breed (neither is red or blue as some puppy mills are advertising). A white Boston Terrier should NEVER be sold as rare...much less ask more money for the poor Boston. These colord dogs (or lack of color) are generally a geneticly weaker dog that is more susceptible to all kinds of health problems. If a breeder should ever offer you a white, red or blue Boston Terrier as rare, don't just walk away. RUN away as fast as you can. Let me say it again...WHITE BOSTON TERRIERS ARE NOT RARE ! They are unfortunate mistakes of nature.

There is another type of Boston that you will come across as a pet. These are often referred to as mis-marked Bostons. This is usually just a simple misalignment of the dark hair with the white hair on the Boston. But since the Official Standard is very specific about some markings, a mis-marked Boston can not be shown and should not be used as a stud dog. These mis-marked Bostons are usually placed in loving homes by the breeder since they still have all of the other wonderful attributes of a Boston Terrier. But be aware that these mis-marked Bostons are pet quality only and you should pay only pet price. These Bostons should also be neutered as soon as possible. These mis-marked Bostons are different from the "white" Bostons that we are seeing being advertised on the internet as rare

breeders who ask for more money on a rare color that is not recognized are irresponsible. often the reason for the rarity is because severe health problems occur with rare colorings. if you do have true blue boston's please don't breed this pair together again, since it's a recessive gene and they both would be carriers. and since you know what is recognized and what isn't it sounds like you are a responsible breeder, so i'm not coming down on you. just giving advice on rare coloring of dogs.

No dog to me is considered "ugly", some are just not desirable for me either with traits of breed or looks, I love pugs because I love their look BUT they also fit my lifestyle very well, the (excuse me) dog that you think is the ugliest dog in the world may be the perfect dog for you, looks really aren't what you should be worried about, it should be characteristics of breed, how well it fits your lifestyle, grooming, medical care and energy wise, the pug sheds a lot which requires quite a bit of vacuuming and brushing, I can live with that, they also require daily face cleaning, I can live with that, they also have quite a bit of expensive health problems that can rise, I can also live with that, that is what you should consider before getting a certain breed of dog.
