As much as this might sound sexist and Im prepared to take a hit if need be... but Im not speaking for myself, Im looking at society as a whole from day 1 till now and I think God is considered male because the majority of men throughout time would never listen to a female in authority.

Oh boy. You sure aren't gonna like what I'm gonna say. And I'll bet 99 % of the females won't like it either but here I go.

God has intended from the beginning for man and woman to complement one another. In order to do so each must have a specific role which God has given us. The God ordained role of the man is to be a spiritual leader for the woman and the family. As a Christian male it is my responsibility to lead my wife and children spiritually so that they will be pleasing to God.

Since Jesus came into this world as a spiritual leader to lead all men unto God, He came as a male because that is the role God has set forth for men.

Remember, leading is not the same as domineering. It is leading by example and accepting the woman as a team mate. But the ultimate RESPONSIBILITY lies upon the shoulders of the male.

Good question. I don't know the answer to it but I have to say that I interpret God as this all-encompassing energy or spirit that includes both male and female and everythign in between. I know that might not be a popular viewpoint but I can't help but feel it's truth. At least to me.... God is Love.

God is not only spirit. God is three parts. Spirit, Father, and Son. Jesus being the Son was male. The Holy Spirit is only referred to as "He" so that we may better understand it.

You are thinking in the terms of flesh (genitals) It isn't like that. God created man in His image. He created Adam first. Female came from the man. It does not make her less, but an extension of, or a mate to.
The Bible says that in Heaven there is neither male or female. Not that I will not still be me in Heaven, a woman, there will not be any division among male and female like there is here on earth.
So, I don't think that it is 'Important' that He is male, just that He is. period.

Because Western organized religions have traditionally been dominated by men, so they attributed a male sexuality to their primary god(s).

Since God is not a human, why do we feel the need to attribute human characteristics and emotions to it at all? What kind of sense does it make to describe god as a "jealous god," a "loving god," a "vengeful god," and "angry god," as if an entity that is so different from ourselves would exhibit such emotions? It's like ants trying to attribute ant motives to humans. Perhaps it helps ants (and ourselves) envision god better, but it doesn't really give us a scrap of useful information about what god is.

Which brings us to the question of why we imagine that we are made in "god's image." To me, it is clearly a case of species bigotry, in which we imagine ourselves to be so superior to all other things (both known and unknown) that we attribute our own thinking processes, our own emotions, even our own appearance to the entity that we believe made us. This is nothing short of arrogance!

It's not, at least in my view. I go to sweat lodges... the way we name things gives a gender balance and complement to the world. There is Grandfather Sun, and Grandmother Moon. There is a male and female side to everything. That way both are honoured. This way is but one way, however. Make your meanings as you wish.

As you put it, the only reason God is referred as He is because of his strength and ability all the faithful believes in. In normal life a man is always regarded as stronger that his female counterpart. In my faith, God is neither a He or She, but my opinion of God being referred as He, is He is Stronger and Able than any thing in this world He created.

Nobody has ever seen or heard God. Those who say they did are mental cases. Men pictured God to be male.
