i agree with cagney, aside from physical differnces and different surgeries to alter them there's really no difference. life span is not affected by being a male or female in dogs. it can be shortened if the dog is not sexually altered, and has not received proper feeding, vet care and training (like not to run out into the street.) it's a matter of personal preference. personally i prefer female dogs i've had better luck with training and personality of my females. but many people will say the same about their male dogs. it really doesn't make a difference, as long as you know the costs of owning a puppy. figure on about $1000 for the first year for vet care, spay or neuter, a crate, toys. premium dog food, training classes, collar, leash, etc. etc. good luck. they are an adorable breed of dog, but they are very active and can be difficult to train so make sure you find a trainer that meets your needs with the dog and you are comfortable with. and you will have a happy dog and a happy home.

a male has a penis and a female has a vagina. you should neuter the male and spay the female. bout covers it.
