If science is on its way to discovering our world, why do people still believe in creation? Why do people still believe in higher powers, something that can control us? Are people really that weak?

It amazes me how many people think science is an evil lie. They obviously pick and choose what scientific theories are lies according to how they fit in with their personal beliefs.
It's an irrational and somewhat infantile view of the world, and at least half of Americans think this way.

I believe in a higher power because of personal evidence.

BTW.... the world was discovered when people first put their foot down and stepped on something. Holy Moly they said... I'm stepping on something... I think I'll call it a world.

I don't believe that my higher power controls me. Most reasonable people are of the same opinion. However, a greater power than me is often able to help me do things that I thought myself previously incapable of.

I don't find belief in a higher power makes me weak. To the contrary, I've become much stronger.

Lastly, please read the book "Many Lives, Many Masters", and tell me there is no such thing as an afterlife. If you get through that, you might take a look at "Twenty Cases Suggestive of Reincarnation". Both books were written by medical doctors; men of SCIENCE.

Be sceptical if you want. Remember that the consternation you show is simply contempt without prior investigation. That's poor science in any arena.

maybe its your mind that is weak, who doesn't recognize that the reason belief in God is growing is because the world is becoming increasingly unstable, and cannot be reversed. And that the potential for the world to destroy itself continues to grow and grow. Science gives us an initial mastery over the world, and shuts out God because we feel as though we don't need God. Science is a form of power over nature and has caused many to turn away from God as any type of power has the potential to do. But now that technology and science are growing almost out of control, and that stability is leading to fear, and fear inclines men towards religion. Youve heard of foxhole religion. But that doesnt make it less valid, it just helps people recognize more easily the truth.

A great philosopher once said, "a little philosophy inclines mens minds to atheism, but depth in philosophy brings mens minds back to religion".

I am sure you believe you are on some higher intellectual plane and everyone who is religious is part of a flock of mindless sheep (although I admit, many many are).

Having said that, I do leave open the possibility of no God, we can never be absolutely sure in this life.

I believe that the concept of God, independent of a religious institution, is the manifestation of something else imprinted in our minds. I am a person who believes that many animals are capable of emotion- look a Labrador in the eyes and try to deny that- but I think that somewhere along the road to our path of true sentience, we made parts of our minds, which have been present but not used for profound thought for millenia, fire their synapses in ways they were never originally meant to. Just as we have dreams and other anomalies of our imagination, we have a need to characterize what we percieve as a supreme force in the universe.

For me, God is the balance of everything, that you could run a cosmic spoon across a galaxy, and like eddies in fresh hot chocolate, it would all spin and interact with everything else in such a way that it would correct and balance itself eventually. For others, God is a supreme authority present to relieve them of some burdens of moral decisions, a way of avoiding nihilism (I suspect I'm slightly misusing that term). To quote Voltaire: "If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him."

EDIT - I think it should be asked of both God and more concrete theories of creation, "Where did it come from?". You cannot say that God was always there, if we are creations in the likeness of a creator, a creator then must too be defined enough that he originated somewhere else. The beauty of this is, you can't answer that. You can say whatever you want to, but no answer will really be definitive and immune to skepticism from believers and nonbelievers. I do not, nor do I care to, know of where it ALL began, but I do know that the concept of a God is a convenient way to answer the question for those who both refuse to leave the question unresolved and also do not want to go insane at the prospect of answering it.

The answer is simple ..Faith..We believe in God because we have Faith..Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen! I do not need Science to prove anything to me about my God because I have Faith that he is real .A higher power does not control us for we are all given free will to believe and accept or not to so the control of yourself is in your choices you make.Science will never prove that i came from a monkey because i was created by God, I believe that with all that I am and if you do not believe that then I pray that the Lord will find a way to reach your heart .God Bless!

I look at the universe and earth and I look at me. The life force, soul, the miracle of life. What is this thing that makes things alive. When you look at biology and think about how incredible the human body is let alone other life on earth like plants. Life is energy and energy doesn't disappear it changes state. Earth is so amazing I can't comprehend it. There's something and it's real and it's way beyond me. The more science uncovers the more amazed I am.

Hi, People believe not in god but a mental support, People arround the world CHASING in life but not GETTING. Or they are suffering from pains and illusions, Thus their mind thrive to support on "Imagination" which they think can help them. Actually there is no power or god in such foem which can help us pay our home loan or car installments or can help us to get rid of deadly deseases, People want it to be done, though they are doing it but they want it to be done by someone else. Thus they start calling and worshipping it or we can say they simple ELURE the god. God is certainly there, in form of DHARMA, In India word DHARMA is not same to RELIGION in english. DHARMA means that ULTIMATE RULE who is prevailing, had Prevailed and will prevail over all of us.How? All living beings or existing things has to come to an end due to their existance. What ever is existing will disappear.ULTIMATE POWER never interfere with mind and thoughts as people think. In India god is called "BRAHMA" . BRAHMA means Universe or "SOMETHING EXPANDING CONINUOUSLY"
Now scientists agree that whole universe is EXPANDING CONTINUOUSLY. So we can conclude people dont believe they just call for supports because they fear they will die , or they will lose something in rat race. This belief is generated out of fear. i have seen disaapointed people who shout at god, but god is like silent sky, It never reply of smile nor of grief.

Do you think people are civilized because we have technology? The human race is still basically savage, and primitive. Primitive savages ALWAYS believe in gods and the supernatural, and humanity will continue to do so until we become sophisticated enough so that it's no longer neccessary.

The reason is that Science is not the disproving of God. It is the the completion of subduing the Earth as God commanded and leaving him out will cause nothing but confusion.
