Adopt a cat that needs a good and loving home from an animal rescue or humane society The cats that often end up in these types of places tend to be much more loving and attentive in return. There are already so many cats out there that haven't had the best start give one of them a second chance at being a great pet.

Adopt the great things:
Cheaper
Toilet Trained
Save a Life
You Can Tell the Personality
Any age
Come De-sexed, Micro Chipped, Vaccinated, etc
are cheap

Disadvantages:
Don't always know the history
may have bad habits

Pet shop
great thinngs:
are cute
young
friendly

disadvantages;
Shelter pets get put to sleep
usually need to be toilet trained
are usually bred just to get sold to the pet shop
are expensive

Hope this helps personally I'd adopt good luck to you and your future cat.

Personally I prefer to adopt cats, but here are some pros and cons of both:

Adopting, advantages:
Cheaper, saving an animal in need of a home, often spayed/neutered before they come home with you

Adopting, disadvantages:
Not purebred, some shelters do extensive living and background checks, often there is a waiting period before you can bring the cat home

Buying, advantages:
often purebred, so you can choose breed/color you like, pedigreed ("family" history) if you buy from respected breeder, more choices available

Buying, disadvantages:
Very expensive, not saving a cat in need, like at the shelter.

These are a few, I'd reccomend visiting some animal shelters, and socializing with the cats, and comparing options. I'd also contact some respected breeders, visit a cat show, to review your options. Good luck!

As stated above, either option (adopt or buy) is a good one ( I prefer adopt).
A kitten is certainly entertaining, but why not consider a spayed-or-neutered older cat? There are just too many cats and not enough homes for them all... you know what the next step is for the older cats in animal shelters...

A cat is pretty much self-sufficient... a full water dish, food and clean litter box is heaven for them! AND how could that possibly be a bad thing with your schedule!

Remember... dogs have owners, cats have STAFF!

Good Luck

I would rather adopt, but it depends if the cat/kitten has been abused. SOme cats/kittens in the shelter might be abused. If you buy from pet store, careful that it's not a sick one. Pet store owners will do anything to get money, even though the cat or dog is sick. Not all pet stores..but most. I got my dog from the pet store.ande every dog and cat I saw were somehow sick. Try getting from a breeder also if you want a baby kitten.

Sometimes adopting is better I would go to the local animal shelter most of the animals that they receive there are either gotten rid of because someone is allergic or their other pets didn't get along with the animal its sad.
I just adopted my baby kitty there, Damien Jenkins or DJ for short.. He is the best cat and was only like 80.00 he was already fixed just had to pay for the microchip and a small fee

I think you should adopt a pet, I just got one from the local SPCA and you are doing the pet a favor by giving it a good home. And also I think a cat as being gone all day, a cat as long as it has food, water , litter and a bed its happy, where as a dog would need to be let out.

I would say adopt, as so many cats get turfed out of homes and dumped on shelters, particularly over the Christmas period. And pet shops tend to jack up the prices for their animals ($900 for a cross-breed dog that they decided to give a different name instead? No thank-you). There are always animals at shelters looking for homes - the only problem is trying to decide on just one :)

There really is no disadvantages to either, But a good advantage to adopting is that your actually saving the cat, If you get it from a pound of shelter. Hope that helped a little o.O

Adopting one would likely result in saving a cats life where as buying one would increase your choices . Adoption may also be the cheaper way to go . Good hunting !
