The state has passed legislation that forbids wood burning stoves and furnaces to operate with no visable plume.


This is a far greater regulation that the State has for oil burning furnaces.

I guess they passed the legislation in order to protect the woods.
I myself like the smell of the wood burning, but I support all other alternative ways of heating that do not pollute the environment. This brings me to the oil question; I do not think that oil burns cleaner, but by burning oil, we protect the woodlands.

I'd think it would be ok. If you're that worried, look into a pellet stove. They heat as well or better than wood stoves. Plus, you can get pellets in different scents and will make your whole house smell good. We have propane out here too, and it is very expensive. Just make sure whatever kind of stove you get is properly vented, and you should have no problems. I'll list a site below that has information about them.

Clean(ER) burning than wood, and it saves our beautiful forests.
