Our father recently passed away and my sisters and I have received an SF 1174 - he's retired Navy. Here's a link to what it looks like http://west.dtic.mil/whs/directives/infomgt/forms/eforms/sf1174.pdf

LIK - u didn't read my question. We already each have the SF 1174. We want to know what submission of this accomplishes.

My suggestion is take it to the nearest military installation because even at the time of death all dependents are still eligible to military benefits. Take the form to the base personnel office and they will walk you through the process of filling out the form.

I strongly suggest you to to this link:

http://west.dtic.mil/whs/directives/infomgt/forms/eforms/sf1174.pdf

This is of vital importance to relatives of your father. If the link doesn't work, to to Google search site, then type in SF 1174

You or remaining family members could be due some benefits which your father earned while serving his country in the military.
