I have my permanent residence in the US since 2004 I think and I plan to go to Denmark for studying since I'm Danish citizen. I don't know how long you have to stay in the states. Well what my parents said is basically I have to come back to the states every once a year to keep my permanent residence card.

You can leave the US as early and as often as you need to, but be careful to make sure that you don't stay out for more than one year, and that you maintain your legal residency in the US. It is very easy to lose your residency if it appears you no longer live in the US:

Look about halfway down this page where it talks about maintaining your residency.

If you are a legal resident, I think you can only leave the country (US) twice a year. If you leave more than twice, you might not be able to come back for awhile. I'm not sure. Ask immigration about it.

if you are a citizen of the states already (which you're probably not) then yes, or if you have a green card, then you will be able to return to the US. otherwise, you should wait because they won't let you come back without a green card, or without citizenship.
