In Canada the missing person can go into the police station and advice them that they are ok and not missing. The police will remove you from the missing person's list and computer database. The person that reported you missing will be told that you have been found ok(and that's it if that's all the information you want released). I don't know Florida procedure but I'm sure that it is similar. The only way you would be in trouble is if you were violating some kind of probation/bail order by going missing and then there might be warrants out for you.

After you turn 18, the missing person report is just a formality. Family members sometimes file missing persons reports on people they care about. However, the police (generally) cannot take custody over the person and return them back to the reporting persons home unless they are A DANGER TO HIM/HER-SELF OR TO OTHERS. So simply go to the police, tell them that your "ok" so they can cancel the report and that is the end (IF YOUR 18 OR OLDER). Generally the police will not reveal your location to the person who filed the report, they will only tell them that you are ok

Excellent question.
I have no idea but I will be looking back to see.
I would think that you would have to turn yourself in and say that you left of your own accord.
I always get this stuff in the mail asking 'have you seen this person' and some of these people are well over 18.
maybe you can call the person who reported youi missing and let them know that you are okay and ask them to drop it (not likely)
but if you contact the police department and tell them that you are not missing but you just wish to have your privacy respected. I bet that they would take you off of the list once they verified that you left because you wanted to and not because you were abuducted (by a custodial parent for example).

If you are considered *missing* you should call the national center for missing children http://www.missingkids.com/
and let them know you are not really missing - you've not been kidnapped, your not dead...

That way THEY CAN SPEND THAT MONEY ON SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN KIDNAPPED....

I don't know your story - and if you don't contact your family - that's fine with me. But please call them today to tell them you're ok and to take you off the register so that they can use those resources elsewhere....
