I'm a devout Christian, and I always feel pressured to go over to their house and hang out but it leaves me feeling dirty. That and the damn cigarrette smoke that they blow on me.

No, the smoke is something extra. When this Jamaican guy at my work gets up to say the prayer, this atheist guy ALWAYS has something to say about it. He makes a scene and quite frankly, it's disgusting.

please try not to hate them. you must know they also don't like your religion but they can still stand it. Why can't you? just relex and try to understand that ppl will be different by belief, opinion, taste, meaning...etc. but the cigarrette smoke _ its your health....you can tell them how you feel (politely). You should be well-trained to be compromised and adjustable with situations. If not, what your religion is for? hum? You don't have to preach them, they will see the true Christianity through your heart.

because you don't understand people. Why is it more likely you would be Muslim if you were raised Muslim? Or raised in a Muslim country. An engine mechanic will know an understand failures in an engine without feeling any emotion. He knows the causes and expects the effect. Know as far as why that person has those beliefs I am sure they are comparable as to why you have yours. Based on experience and exposure.
As far as the snide little comments, nothing a little one on one communication can't fix. I also feel if one is solid in their personal beliefs they should not feel the need to worry of others. As far as feeling dirty, I am not sure if yous peaking if a spiritual dirty or what. Assuming it is spiritual dirty yes I can fully understand. I have been in places before and you get that bad feeling. I am a firm believer of houses and places having almost an aura to them as to it's past. One time I was in a nun's house with friends to house sit and had this over whelming feeling of comfort. Unexplained but the feelings were true and unprovoked.

How is hate part of the "devout Christian" walk?
If you were tough enough to stand up to peer pressure, you probably wouldn't go over there. Then again you also would not likely be a Christian.
Please do learn to think for yourself.
Maybe the "atheist" guy doesn't like having to listen to the dumb reggae prayer.

Pray that, that stops.
Find something else that you, and your wife can
do together. Like a Bible Study Class.
Maybe Dancing, or home projects.
I wouldn't go because of the smoking. It STINKS.
They say,
" The Family that Prays together,
stays together ".
I hope you two are in a good Church.
My Prayers are with you.

There's nothing wrong with being atheist, and most atheists won't even outright admit their beliefs for fear of persecutions, but my guess is there are pleanty of people who do not believe in any particular god. I'm sure you annoy atleast one atheist in one way or form, and maybe they have posted a question on Yahoo.

Some priests and ministers smoke today, and long ago they did on a regular basis.
Someking is not necessarily atheist nor sinful.
Do you own a car. Do you not put tons of hydrocarbons, CO2 and CO into the air every day. Do you think God loves that!

You "hate" them because those atheist beliefs are the culture of death. -They justify every liberal's unholy action. They justify killing babies (abortion) and the elderly (euthanasia) AND have the gall to say they are compassionate.
Trust me they'd love to believe in a higher power, but to do so they know they would have to sit in judgement. This is why you dislike going to their home.

It's probably because you're closed-minded and intolerant.
Or it has nothing to do with the fact that they're atheist, and you just don't like smokers.

I don't like cigarette smoke either but I wouldn't tie it to someone's religious beliefs.

Make a pact: if he gives up his disgusting, destructive habit (smoking) you'll give up your disgusting, destructive habit (religion).
