Ohhhh I hear the hopelessness in this one.
You already know, don't you.
You can only do what you can to make your 1/2 work. You can't do anything about his (her?) half.
If you do the best you can with your half and it isn't enough, you don't get the reward you wanted, but you can come away knowing you did your best.
