Because they are always putting their nose in business that doesn't pertain to them. If they understood their job, and didn't try to do mine, then I would have a little more respect for them. They think that because they are security guards that they have the rights to intervene in volitile situations, causing me more work. If they just observed, then called for the police to come do their part, we would all get along just fine.

Sometimes there is no respect for either one of these groups. Some security Officers think they are entitled to do what the police are by law able and required to do. Some Security Officers are "wanna be's" but when it get right down to it could not possibly handle all that we deal with, then again there are some cops that just plain DISREPECT a Security Officer because they think the S. O. is "beneath" them-------which is ENTIRELY WRONG. We all put our pants on the same way and we all tie our shoes.

Many times it would seem that cops have no use for security officers. While security people provide a valuable service, they do tend to get a little dramatic at times. Yeay, maybe some of them really want to be cops and just can't because of one reason or another. But what it comes down to is that most cops have paid their dues. Security officers haven't and most will never come close. So they shouldn't pretend to be cops because most have no idea what the job is about or what its like.

are you talking about private security or correctional officers??? i don't believe that is the case for most police officers. about 90 percent of the police officers i have ever dealt with have told me that they respect the job that correctional officers do. deal day in and day out with convicted felons. its more of a societal breakdown that brings lack of respect for correctional officers. the men and women that work in the prison system work behind the scenes and get very little recognition from the general public. it sounds to me like you've had some dealings with some very unprofessional police officers.

Security guards are kind of dumb ( and I mean no offense ) it's just that you do not need any education at all to become one. Police officers do have to go to some type of training but it doesen't mean they are smart either. I guess the police ( and I have respect for the ones that do their jobs well ) have their own little pet peevs.

Look it is because security companies hire these gung ho wannabe's that tend to take matters into their own hands instead of stick to thier mandate. Honestly ALOT of em ARE jokes. NO OFFENSE. I do hands-on Loss Prevention for a living and i can't tell you how many time in the past ten years I have had a lifter get away becasue of an overeager uniformed sec guard. I have nothing against em but they need to learn thier place.

Most believe security officers are cop wanna bes' but just don't have the brains to pass the written test or do the fitness test, so security guards just low life's trying to throw their weight around.

In twenty years as a cop I have never met a security officer that was not a jerk. They are in every sence of the word wannabes, that could not become sworn officers.
