Saddam was not an empathetic character, but the events under which he was executed have branded him by the media an empathetic character. The issues are a few. First, on of the biggest they executed him on the most celebrated Muslim holiday of the year. You would never see anyone executed on Christmas or Easter. Second, from our government to theirs all one can see is corruption. First our government says it discouraged them from doing it so quickly, however, rather than just keep him for two days longer until the holiday was over, our government turned him over. Next, we see a demonstration that this new governement is the same as the last only Shii influenced. They misrespresented the events and tried to snow us all. So, it is offensive because people (Americans) are dying for what over there? It is offensive to take a life even an evil one and do what they did at the end. Humiliation is a type of violence all on its own. And add to that they shot him after he was dead. This was a life that God made and God took away, and for that we should at least recognize it and be respectful of that fact even if he is an evil person.

Saddam was a tyrant ruler when he ruled over Iraq. To preserve his throne he punished people. The people he punished where out to assinate him, over throw him, due to that he punished them and innocent common people died in the process. But the country was succesful in terms of economy, resource, minerals now what is there in that country. Nothing. No peace, security, economy has collapsed and no democracy which Bush and Blair want the whole world to be yet they make the world a dangerous place to live in. The number of people that Saddam killed is far less then the number of people especially children who died from the sanction that was imposed on Iraq, just like the Sanction that is imposed in many other countries by Bush and Blair and the UN. Look at palistine, Lebanon how many have died??? in the name deffence if they cared about peace and security they would not have double standard. Supporting the Israel to kill innocent people. How many other tyrant rulers will be hanged? Saddam was not given a fair trial, the US run the whole trial with puppet Iraqis at the front. They even made him to be hanged on Eid, day of celebration of the Muslims. This is an insult and to cause more strie between Sunnis and Shia'. Iraq will not be a better place after Saddam he was'nt around for the last 2/3 years anyway, what good has come about in conquaring that land? in the name of searching for W.M.D.
Palistine, Afganistan, Iraq, whose next.......Iran?
Atleast what is apparent, Saddam died as a Muslims, and its seems as a repentant Muslim. Someone who believed and worshipped the one true God, Allaah, the Creator of all that exists.
Allaah does not forgive the sin of worshipping other than Him, but he forgives all other sins to whom repents and believes and does righteous actions. Will Blair, Bush do this?

The only thing I feel sorry about is that he was such a crazed megalomaniac and made his people suffer so, along with a large chunk of the rest of the world. Just think what he could have achieved as a decent human being.

The two events should not be confused.

He was a despicable sociopath who destroyed almost anything that was good that he came into contact with.

However, the events surrounding his death and the fact that he was put to death rather than paying long time for his crimes diminish us as human beings.

Egro, I feel sorry for him that he was hanged in such a tawdry manner and sorry for the people of Iraq who won't have the long term relief of seeing him pay for his crimes day by day.

we don't feel sorry for him we feel frustrated of how it was all done. he was just tried for killing 180 odd Kurds but what about all the other crimes like using Sarin gas on his own people . he done a lot of crazy things to the Iranians . but a lot of people including the USA and UK governments didn't really want the Truth to come out because it would dig up lots of dirt they created him in to a threat so they can find an excuse to do what they are doing in Iraq . just check up on what Donald rumsfeld has been up too for the last forty years then you might understand things a bit better. its like punishing a serial killer for just one murder does that make sense .

Ah don't get me started. People who sympathise with a brutal man like that need to have a look at what he got up to! I don't agree with how the war began, why they lied about wmd, he wasn't a threat to us, but good riddance to the swine. He was in charge of everything within Iraq and got rid of everybody of a different race or religion. He is like Stalin or Hitler in my book. He executed people because they took part in currency speculation for god sakes. He destroyed thousands of acres of habitat that provided food and water for people. He should of died a more painful death.

We don't have to do anything we don't want to - we have free will. I don't agree with capital punishment as I don't believe that any one has the right to take another's life, whatever they have done. That said, no, I don't feel sorry for him because of what he did to thousands of others. He would have suffered more if he had been kept in jail for the rest of his natural life.

I didn't feel sorry for him, but I admit that part of me was sad to see him go ONLY because he was such a cartoon. He was hilarious to watch.

And then I'm reminded of what he did to his own people, and I get over it.
