A complaint of a majority of new-weds !

A Generation gap I think.
Every generation feels so
Nothing uncommon. Find out ways and means to balance the conflicting views with out coming into a conflict. Remember a Family is a collective living and so every individual has to make some sacrifice or other for the good of all. There is no scale of measurement of who has sacrificed how much ? It differs from individual to individual and on the basis of position in family, situation, attitude, circumstance etc., etc., there are no hard and fast rules in this game you have to work out your own for the common good.
Good Luck

P.S -Just ensure that when you become an in-law you are broadminded !

Dear Pooja,

This is a very common problem specially for the girls as they are to leave their own house and move to in-laws. Be patient and try to adjust. Care for your husband and give him full love and try to keep him in your favour and confidence. The in-laws are secondary.

Always try to feel that if someone says negative about your parents, how would you feel? So as the in-laws house is now your own one, you have to keep your family matters secret and do not tell anyone about the negatives of your in-laws, except to your parents, that too in worst conditions.
Don't forget that after few years you would be the In-charge of this family.
Best of Luck and happy married life.

wow, welcome to the wonderful world of marriage. I can relate.

Here's what I do. I play along. Whatever the heck it is their into I respect and will not let the silly thoughts and silly choice of words they have to use......affect me. It took me three years to figure this out. We don't see eye to eye on all things in life whatever it may be. What makes us individuals. To not think like one another and still manage to co-exist is a special gift. Tolerance. After all ,you are part of them as they are a part of you. I've had long and slightly heated discussions with them in the past and at times even childlike discussion. I, to this day I respect both of them ,as hard as it's been. Ignore the small things but stand for what matters most................. Your marraige. Your prince in shinning armour or woman of enchantment. With that said, Sandy and Jack, you guys are just alright!

if i see you than you are also narrominded , because telling to others that they are narrowminded persons is again a activity of narrowminded persons.so you are narrowminded in my reference. narrowminded problem is because of lack of knowledge.among any two one is narrowminded because once knowledge is relative to other may be more or less.
so if you are broad minded than give knowledge them and forget that they will change you do your job definetely not today one day they will understand it.
sorry to tell you hard words .it is what i think

Smile and Nod alot.
Or try to find out what interestes they do have that you also have and focus on the positive.
If that doesn't work....try again.
If that doesn't work....go back to smiling and nodding alot.

Good Luck!

You try to have very little to do with them & when they say something you find offensive you let them know and then leave the room.

Mine are too. Sadly you just have to avoid those topics and they will probably always be awkward, but that doesn't mean you can't have any fun together.
