I was recently at a party in toronto with underage drinking. The police showed up and took everyone's name down and said that he was doing something like 'caution cards'. Obviously my name is now in their system, but can prospective employers now see this? Does this remain there forever? He said it wasnt like a criminal record, but im scared that people can see this if they do a background check on me.

Thanks guys.

Can't be seen by anyone. Not on a criminal record check. Not on any background checks. But if you get caught again it might not go so well. Be grateful you were given a big break by a cop.

The "card" of which you refer is known more popularly as a "Field Interview" or "Contact" card. The card is not used in any matter other than future reference should a crime be reported that may have occurred in the same general vicinity and time frame of which the contact by law enforcement was made. As a minimum, it's a list of "potential" suspects in solving a crime. It does NOT go on any "criminal record" and not available to any "background" check by potential employers.
