There is a name for like the state of mind that you're in..like a trans or something.We learned the name in driver's ed.

Highway Hypnosis is the correct answer as you see it listed above. Velocitization is the illusion that occurs after periods of continuous driving at near constant speeds. Example: you are on a straight stretch doing 75 miles per hour for 25 miles. Speed zone ahead reads 35MPH. You slow down but not nearly enough. You "feel" like you are going very slowly (35mph) when in reality you are actually driving 45 or 50 mph.

about 20 years ago i was taught

"driver velocitization" or velocitizing

it's when everything looks the same (like dirving through nebraska) and you keep speeding up because you lose your sense of velocity. which is why we have speedometers.
