Best think is to make sure you eat a well balanced diet, drink plenty of water and go for a brisk 1/2 hour walk preferable each day. Make sure you take time out for yourself, be it to sit quietly and meditate, have an uninterrupted bubble bath, listen to music or read a book. Make sure if you have background noise as in music it is upbeat and "happy". If your home is in shadows make sure you keep the lights on, open windows and let in the fresh air, even in winter a quick flush of clean air then heating the fresh air is much better than reheating stale air. Keep your Dr posted on your condition, it may help to keep a diary, list things that happened or that worried you list what you did at the time, that way you can see if things trigger you at specific times of the day, week or month. If you are on medication take it as directed and do not come off quickly, come off only under the guidance and management of your Dr, see a counselor and surround yourself with people you can trust and be happy with.....good luck!

Yup, I had to deal with that very thing. It ran in my family, but mine was aggravated by drugs mostly. But I'm clean now, but still have some mood swings. You must do what most Bi-polar people hate doing, TAKE YOUR MEDS!!! Take your meds, and stay away from drugs, and alcohol. That's the only way really. It's not something you can talk yourself out of.-Voodoo

Yeah - I take walks, and usually try to go with someone, just to talk to them. A close friend, no one perfessional. Just to talk, about 3 times a week. We can talk about everything, and then walking gets your mind off things, and puts you (me anyway) in a natures nuteral mood, and then while talking I can also listen to her, and change the outlook.
I dont know it just helps me. My friend says its weird sometimes because I often contradict myself on thoughts of life, depending on the visit, but I think its a good idea, and it helps me feel in control of things.
Hope I was some help,
-Julia

Meds, first of all. Second of all, routine is very important. Try to not stray from your everyday activities that you normally do. Third, no caffiene, nicotine, excess sugar, or illegal drugs. If you can follow these, it will really help.
