When a dog is in heat the vulva gets enlarges and there is usually discharge. If her heat cycle has really lasted 6 weeks, I would have her seen by a veterinarian. She could have an open pyometra, which can be fatal if not treated (in other words, she should be spayed).

No, being in heat for 6 weeks is not normal. Your dog needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian to make sure she isn't having serious problems... like a pyometra (uterine infection - they can have bloody discharge and a swollen vulva just like when they are in heat - so have your vet check her to make sure which it is).

If you aren't planning on breeding, use the appointment with your vet to plan a good time to spay her. Not trying to be pushy... just mentioning that it should be done sooner rather than later if you aren't going to breed her.

yes. but being in heat for 6 weeks is not normal. take her to the vet. cycles may varry, but be sure nothing is wrong. and with your many other questions, i reccomend you spay your dog. you shouldn't have puppies in your house or be responsible for that kind of care that they require.

yes it will be swollen...dogs stay in heat for about 4-6 weeks i think....if she isn't done in about another week i would take her to the vet
