I have about $180,000 in student loans and are feeling overwhelmed. I will not be able to pay these off until 40 years of paying over 200 a month. i am feeling like this is impossible and have looked into many things and ways to pay them off.

My main concern is that i will be spending all my time and effort trying to pay off loans rather than being able to have a real life... I am 28 already and in the medical field so my life will pretty much already be all work.... anyone know how i can get grants or funds to help pay this off a bit?

Work more, spend less. Get all the overtime you can get.

Wow, I know doctors that don't have that much in student loans. How did you rack up $180k in student loans just for nursing? Are you a nurse practitioner, nurse midwife or nurse anesthetist? I am not sure what to tell you to pay them off. I think the time to get grants and scholarships was before you graduated not after.

My ADN was free, I went to a two year community college and since I was low income at the time, tuition was waived. My BSN cost very little too as it was funded by scholarships and tuition reimbursement by my employer. I think my BSN ended up costing me about $3500 all told.

if u go to work in a place that is considered "needy", the state will help pay part of the loans (so much for every year)..other than that, consolidate them and make your payments lower. There are several repayment plans (interest only, income-sensitive, hardship forbearance).. talk to your lender about these.. It spreads ur payments out over 30 years or so and makes ur payments cheaper.. on the brite side..when ur dead they are paid off.

When you graduate get a job that will pay for your schooling. Many hospitals and clinics will. Good luck! I'm in nursing school too.
