From what I hear, Windows Vista is just a more user friendly OS with a few new perks here and there. I like the idea of a new OS but is it really going to be worth the investment when it releases?

Right now, Vista has entirely too many security holes. I am personally going to wait for a while, until I need to upgrade, to allow the initial bugs to be worked out. There is too much for me to lose by upgrading to a new OS the moment it comes out. It only takes one bug to wipe out any and all data on the hard drive. XP does the job for what I need to do. I will let everyone else find the bugs and let them get fixed before I upgrade.

Also, I have heard that Vista requires a computer with extremely up to date parts, and that many computers that have been sold as "Vista Capable" are either not, are capable after upgrading hardware, are capable of only running a "base version", or are capable of running the higher level of Vista. Again, I will wait, and I suggest you do too.

I am asking myself the same question. As far as Office 2007 goes the answer is definately yes as there are giant improvements in the applications, especially Excel which will be much bigger and more powerful.

I would imagine the new OS (vista) would handle the extra load better as well. I would think that upgrading the PC at the same time would be prudent (although not essential). At the minimum i would add more RAM.

My only issue is the first version of *anything* is usually a bit buggy and expensive. Sometime it is worth waiting a bit until a few of the more obvious bumps are ironed out.

That said, i will be purchasing it as i am an Excel developer so i need to get up to speed on the new excel features.

I think it will be XP was a huge improvement over 98 (then again ANYTHING was an improvement) as thehard drives get larger and teh demand for more speed and multitasking happens newer OS are able ot handle it more efficently.

But as always BUY LEGIT!

I think it will be worth it in the long run.
But I don't plan on running out to get it right away
I'd like to tinker around with it on a store's floor model first, to see exactly what I'd be paying for.
