My thoughts on this aren't with the general populace.
I think that in heaven, a person is in the presence of God and in the light. As in the 'light' near-death people see at the tunnel. But here on earth, we are separated from that light and therefore in a sort of darkness. I think this is hell.
I think that we reincarnate to this place to learn to be kind to other people, and that it's voluntary to leave heaven to come here into a negative enviroment. However; once here - it's for the long haul. And to commit suicide is to not finish what we wanted to accomplish. So a suicider is tossed back in utero and will not get back to heaven until a life here has been finished without cutting it short.
So, technically - that is considered being sent to 'hell'. Being forced to live here in hell until a predetermined time is up. There is no being damned by suicide in my opinion. God knows life here is brutal. It simply means it will take that person slightly longer to make it back home to heaven. But in the span of eternity - that is the blink of an eye.
Hope that gives you a bit different spin than all the other replies I'm sure you'll get. Something to think about. : ) God bless.

Well I don't believe that there even is a hell, but I know that the catholic church and a lot of other christian denominations no longer say that a person goes to hell if they commit suicide. There is no scripture on the matter, it was just a tradition because in the middle ages people didn't understand psychology and they thought that suicide was the ulitimate rejection of god's love. But even if hell does exist I'm sure your pal will not go there because of his suicide because it is frankly just one part of everything else that he did and loving god is a lot more important than how he died. You're right on the Jesus part according to Christianity. I am sorry that your friend died; I hope he and his family and friends including you feel better.

The Bible says: the soul that sinneth, it itself shall die.
So basically, when you die, you've paid for your sins. Suicide is not the "ultimate" sin. That would be blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Suicide is simply caused by a soul that is in torment, needing help. Why would God, loving that he is, punish someone hurting so? If anything his heart would wound for them. I'm sure they will be remembered in the resurrection. The idea that its "some unforgiveable sin" is a man-made idea by the Catholic Church. While I don't want to denigrate the Catholic Church, please remember that THIS IS NOT Biblical as you yourself said.
As far as Hell goes, WE ALL go there when we die. Even Christ spoke of his time there if you read the New Testament. After all, Christ is remarked to be "the first in all things, the first raised from the dead and the first raised to Heaven." So, all the souls before him are in hell, the common grave of man, awaiting their resurrection, much like your friend. This is also true of the Thief on the cross by Christ Jesus, after all, he said, "I tell you today, you will be with me in Paradise." Notice, not Heaven, but Paradise. Big difference. The Ressurection will take place on Earth which will become a paradise for the 1,000 years that Satan is bound in the Pit (see Revelation) while mankind regains perfection. Then Satan will be loosed for a short time to mislead perfect mankind. Again, as he misled the original perfect humans, Adam and Eve. However, THIS WILL BE his last chance before being destroyed forever.
So, yes, your friend has every chance of being resurrected that anyone else who is dead does. Personally, I hope you meet again.

The character is revealed, not by occasional good deeds and occasional misdeeds, but by the tendency of the habitual words and acts. If a person was genuinely on God's side, then i doubt that God will condemn them for just one mistake that they make at the end of their life when maybe they were not in their right mind, unless in so doing they are also deliberately rejecting God.
We cannot be sure that people will go to heaven or hell, no matter whether they die from suicide or any other cause of death. That we must leave to God's judgment for now. One day if and when we go to heaven we will be able to examine the records of people's lives and see why God did nor did not allow them into heaven, and we will be able to see that God is loving and just in his decisions.

Death by suicide is the vilest and inhumane thing you can do to your "physical" body; and is (in my opinion and other theologians) an automatic ticket to HELL. You are ultimately saying to whomever you believe created you: "**** YOU AND THIS, I’M OUTTA HERE." However, I do believe in "human acts of selflessness," in which one sacrifices his/her own life for a loved one, friend, innocent bystander, or someone in danger. Throughout the Bible, There is one verse which correlates to this belief detailing: “Greater love hath no man than this, to lay down his life for his friends,” John 15:13. This is what I believe; yet I am conflicted in determining whether a suicide victim of extreme sorrow and childhood abuse might go…I would hope that the Divine Father would have mercy on their souls and actions.
P.S. If it’s a patient in a hospital who’s about to go brain dead or in a vegetable state, and decides to “pull the plug,” I can’t answer that question. That’s up for debate.

We Muslims believe that there is only one sin God will not forgive, and that is associating partners with him. Remember the 1st commandment: Hear O Isreal, the Lord God is ONE.
We believe that God has no helpers, children, parents, or partners. There is no such thing as a trinity, and God is absolutely unique. He is all powerful, all knowing, all seeing, all hearing.
He sent messengers to us to guide us. Some of those messengers were Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Jesus, and Muhammad (may God's peace be on all of them). These messengers all came with the same basic message: Believe in one God and don't worship anything besides him. Believe in the day of judgement and life after death. Do good deeds, give charity to the poor, and be kind to your parents in their old age.

It depends on the reason they committed suicide. Hell is a state of mind. In heaven there is much more truth then here plus karma is no longer an issue. Like suicide, God always gives us a choice but we have to control ourselves.

A person who commits suicide remains a ghost until at least the origianl duration that their life was supposed to be. Weather they go to Hell depends on their other activities in their life. But no one goes to hell eternally as the catholic chruch misconsture. Go to gospelofthenazirenes. for the original New Testament before constantine Changed everything with his click of scribes. It is the truth. Christ taught karma, reincarnation, vegetarianism, and hell a place where one goes temporarily to get thir very bad karma. One has to accept this to know Gods all loving all mercyful nature.
