I have a friend who is 17 and wants to get just get his ged so he can start college this summer instead of?
waiting a year or so he plans on going to a community college to start anyway to save money will this hurt him

I don't think there is a problem with this, but he will be missing out on all the fun of his last year of high school.

Any delay in education hurts and can never be made up even by later completion and continuance. In such an event going to community college is ok if one is able to accept the concurrent consequences related and in the end gets where one wants to go.
