just bought a box of common 3 1/4 in. for my air nailer. now that i think about it, common nails , i don`t think hold very well ??? what if any would be a good use for these ?? there clipped head..

They will be fine for interior (out of the weather) framing. Correctly framed houses do not put a lot of longitudinal (pulling out) force on a nail.

A spiral nail (or a ring shanked) would be one for an exterior application where the lumber might be subject to warping.
