I don't have any intention of doing this, it's just that a character does that in a fictional piece I'm writing and I'm wondered whether it would be realistic for him to get arrested or not?

And if you didn't understand the question the way I worded it in the title, basically if they give him money the kid hacks into the computer system and changes grades for other students...would he be arrested if he were caught?

Hmm, there is more than one way to hack a computer system Stay away from attempting to infultrate via a remote station until you really know what your doing. Best option would be to attempt direct access at the terminal in the school, how you get exclusive time on the machine is your problem, might involve hiding in a cupboard for a few hours and dodging the janitor. If you can install a free key logger and let it run for a couple of days you should be set, but remember to uninstall it when your done. Alternatively you could study your *** off like me so you dont need to hack computer systems and change your grades.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. (AP) - Six high school freshmen hacked into the school computer system and change their grades on class assignments, officials said.

The International Academy students could be expelled.

The alterations began in the fall and were discovered only recently when a teacher noticed some grades were incorrect, said Jennifer Woliung, a spokeswoman for Bloomfield Hills school district. Officials did not say how many grades were changed.

Fourteen other students at the school are serving 20-day suspensions for asking the hackers to change their grades, Woliung said. They also will receive a zero for every altered grade.

The hackers used a laptop brought to school to gain access to password-protected areas. Students are no longer allowed to bring laptops from home, Woliung said. It will be up to the district attorney's office as to whether there will be criminal charges filed.

It is immoral to change the grades. The use of the computer to do so would be a felony. Hacking into the system would be a felony. SO yeah......your character can get arrested and spend years in the juvenile home and as a condition of his probation when he finally gets out he will not be allowed to be around a computer.

first of all any computer hacking is illegal, and, so is changing grades. There have been several people who have done that (they have been on the news) who got time.

Rule of thumb: If you do something to someone/something and you have to question if it's illegal, it most likely is.
