During the 1970's, earth was experiencing global cooling. The majority of "reputable scientists" attributed the cooling to man-caused pollution. Now, "reputable scienists" blame man-caused pollution for global warming. What gives?

Capnemo is an idiot, in every sense of the word.

First, his reference to NASA's picture is proof of global warming (notice the 200-year trend upwards?). The fact is, a single degree change in the average earth temperature is the difference between the ice age and now.

Second, his reference to a "secular scientific article that shows the earth was actually warmer" is not only irrelevant, but he obviously didn't read the article. The article was written in 1999, whereas the past 6 years have been the warmest on record. Further, the article states:
"Human-induced global warming is the raising of surface temperatures due to increased atmospheric concentrations of CO2 and other greenhouse gases."
and
"It is reasonable to conclude that global warming is a real threat,..."

??? How does this article go against global warming?

Third, his reference to the Harvard study is completely ignorant of the followup. 5 editors resigned in protest from the journal it was published in, including the managing editor. Harvard professors disagree with the findings, and the author of the study, Willie Soon, is a paid consultant for the George C. Marshall Institute, a Washington non-profit organization that opposes limits on carbon dioxide emissions.

Stop spreading lies, capnemo. The Earth is warming, mankind is responsible, and we need to do something about it.

The fact is they don't really know. Global warming is sketchy at best. Below is a link taking you to a NASA chart showing the temperature change from 1880 to 2005. Since 1880 the earth's temperature has risen less than 7/10 of 1 degree C. See for yourself here: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/2005/2005cal_fig1.gif

There are numerous charts all over the internet showing the same. The fact that people choose to ignore the facts of these charts shows that they have an agenda to convince the masses of something that really is not happening.

In fact here's a link to a secular scientific article that shows the earth was actually warmer in the past than it is today.

And here's an article from a Harvard University study that says: "Such claims have now been sharply contradicted by the most comprehensive study yet of global temperature over the past 1,000 years. A review of more than 240 scientific studies has shown that today's temperatures are neither the warmest over the past millennium, nor are they producing the most extreme weather - in stark contrast to the claims of the environmentalists.
The review, carried out by a team from Harvard University, examined the findings of studies of so-called "temperature proxies" such as tree rings, ice cores and historical accounts which allow scientists to estimate temperatures prevailing at sites around the world.

The findings prove that the world experienced a Medieval Warm Period between the ninth and 14th centuries with global temperatures significantly higher even than today."

I hope that helps...

The Earth goes through natural cycles of warming and cooling. It has been doing this sence before we where here. I personaly do not think that man is a powerfull enough creature to effect the earth or the universe. People complain about the carbon monoxide that is put off by autos but have never stoped to look at how much occures naturaly. When a volcano erupts it puts out a incredable amount of all of the same pollutants that cars do.(way more than we could dream of creating). I beleave that people are always looking for "impending doom" or just a way to guilt people to do what they do

some scientists believe that it has happened before and that the earth is getting warmer it is just a small step to another ice age and even if all the ice on earth does melt the world will not be coverd in water just more than what is right now i think i heard about a mile or so higher which if you think about it isnt that much so global warming may be only a small problem to a bigger one

In the 70's the gases and such were blocking out the sun therefore no heat. Now those gases are destroying the o-zone(protects from to much sun) which in turn heats us up even though most of us will not notice this change for a long time mostly because it just snowed in Florida not to long ago.

If an asteroid wiped out all life on earth long ago, how did the planet know to adjust itself in order to support life once again? To me it says scientist don't have definitive answers. I think the earth knows how to fix itself considering it has survived for so long.
