you have to know what kind of trip do you have in mind, the resort kind of trip away from crowded city life or the opposite?

if you choose the first kind, i'd say ubud or sanur for the middle-cost budget, and nusadua for the high class resorts. it's like a trip to the paradise.

if you choose the opposite, then it's got to be kuta.
if you're on a tight budget, look for hotels along the "poppies lane", they are also close to the beach and handicraft stores.
if you have extra budget, i recommend the Santika Beach Hotel, great cottages and private beaach with reasonable price.

there are taxi with meters such as the Blue Bird Taxi (they won't cheat you), but it'll be a lot cheaper if you rent a car or a motorcycle. you'll find dozens of cheap car rentals there...

if you wanna save money, buy a lonelyplanet book (www.lonelyplanet.com) and plan your trip well instead of travel agents. they'll drain your pocket dry!

where r u from anyway? if you need more advice, you can email me...

enjoy your holiday!

Hi,
Best Place to stay....easy access to nightlife: Kuta, private beach with high class hotel: Nusa Dua, peaceful environment: Ubud. Water sport: Benoa

Cheap hotel: Kuta. Good quality of handicraft: Ubud/Mas.
Transporation i suggest you to rent a car with local driver. dont take taxi because its easy to get in the hotel but if you want to go to some remote area, you might not want to have your taxi wait - cost you a lot.
I dont know what is your country. But, normally hotel' personnel will assist you to a tour agency they have been working with. Its quite easy to get, and normally driver speaks a little English, so you can ask their suggestion if you have any particular need. In fact, they have suggested places to visit...not bad too!!!!

HAve a nice trip!
